Inktober 2013 – Day 28

I think every Inktober needs to include a drawing of Big Foot. This year Big Foot is getting a tattoo for his mom. He’s sensitive like that. Making use of some watered down ink again to get some subtle shading and texture. Ink used: Zebra Disposable Brush Pen – Fine & Higgins Black Magic

Inktober 2013 – Day 27

Continuing the animal mix-up with a Panda-Lemur. I’m enjoying the ink wash combined with pen but it does take a while to layer everything in. Two more drawings to catch up on the home stretch! Ink used: Faber-Castell 8 Pitt Artist Pens & Higgins Black Magic

Inktober 2013 – Day 26

I watched the Croods the other night and loved the mix-up animals that showed up throughout the film and thought this was a good time to create some of my own. Here are a couple of chipmunk rhinos to start the ball rolling. Had a lot of fun doing an ink wash to shade this […]

Inktober 2013 – Day 25

I love the process of drawing when I start with one idea and it morphs into another as I draw it. I like the scene I ended up with here as it tells a better story than what I was going to initially draw. Makes me think of all the ideas out there I could […]

Inktober 2013 – Day 24

The topic of my “style” came up the other day which got me thinking – “I have a style?!”. In the spirit of rejecting labels I decided to take a departure from the brush pens and pull out my fine liner pens. I think I achieved a different style – but not really. Maybe I […]

Inktober 2013 – Day 23

I usually do things in twos: sneeze, have kids, draw bad Inktober sketches of puns. This drawing is more of a “Monster Mash”. I tried to take all the monsters I could think of and mash them all together into one glorious mess. Which is what I got. I’m happy with this guy except for […]

Inktober 2013 – Day 22

Sometimes I get a little punny with my ideas, but here is an illustration of some Monster Mix – which normally is a trail mix with nuts, raisins and M&Ms. I know, if I have to explain it, I’m not doing my job but sometimes I get a little obscure. This was a fun one, […]

Inktober 2013 – Day 21

Day 21 is an ode to Charles Shultz with a piece I have titled “Still Waiting for the Great Pumpkin”. Fun to revisit Shultz’s loose, quirky illustrations in a kind of time machine back to a more traditional time of illustration. It was fun using my Tombow dual brush pens to add some shading and […]

Inktober 2013 – Day 20

Is this symbolic of how every talk show host feels when the zoo guest comes with dangerous man-eating animals or something deeper? I’ll let you choose. Took some cues from the hunter in Jumanji and took some subtle hints from Leno. Always learning this Inktober. What did I learn on this drawing? That I need […]

Inktober 2013 – Day 19

Day 19 of Inktober, I’m really feeling the marathon track! Life is crazy and attempting an Inktober marathon in the middle of everything is a little… well… crazy! Anyway, it’s pumpkin carving time again! This Inktober represents planning sketches for this year’s jack-o-lantern. One of these sketches will be turned into a pumpkin sculpture to […]
